Currently, Yael is a lead graphic design associate for ManTech International at an Alexandria, VA client site for the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol. While maintaining a DoD secret-level clearance, design services are provided relating to the administration of the contract, including new hire on-boarding materials, PowerPoint presentations, and marketing informational sheets on various related topics.
Previous to that, from 2015 to 2018, she served as senior graphic designer for proposal and marketing at SOS International LLC, a business-to-government company providing logistics, construction, training, intelligence and information technology solutions to clients in defense, diplomacy, intelligence and law enforcement. There she earned and maintained the DoD secret-level clearance while creating a variety of materials associated with RFP responses, corporate branding and supporting documentation.
As senior marketing graphic designer for Tetra Tech Incorporated from 2009 to 2014, Yael produced the full-range of business-to-government materials. These included request for proposal (RFP) response cover designs, organizational charts and project descriptions. She designed PowerPoint templates and presentations, corporate marketing materials, illustrations, posters and large display materials, as well as reports and guides for print and Web use. She is also versed in Section 508 compliance.
From 2000 to 2008, Yael served as art director and production manager for the National Association for Music Education, formerly known as MENC. During her tenure there, she conceptualized, designed, copy edited and produced all materials, including a bi-monthly magazine, books, logos, associated collateral. Yael supervised a junior-level designer and production assistant, as well as coordinated print buying and mail house services. Her 2004 Music in Our Schools Month “Connect with Music” logo was recognized with the 2003 Mercury Award (Bronze).
Yael began her career at Pensaré Design Group, where she worked as a senior graphic designer from 1991 until 1999, provided outstanding client service in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. She created a wide range of publications. Yael also designed logos and associated collateral and supervised printer vendors. Yael’s business card design for Joe Light was recognized in the 1998 Print Magazine Design Annual.
In recent years, Yael’s freelance clients have included the Acute Long Term Hospital Association, Airline Ratings, Alliance for Health Reform, American Medical Student Association, Computer Sciences Corporation, Defense Systems, Desktop Aeronautics, e-Agent, Envirian, Keele University, National Art Education Association, National Association for Music Education and Virtual Homeschool Group.
Yael Konowe received her Master of Arts degree in design management from Staffordshire University, while her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in visual communication was earned from Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA). She has completed a Web design specialist certificate from Northern Virginia Community College, and lives in Reston, Virginia with her husband Adam and daughter Celia.
